A Message From John Flatley
Cystic Fibrosis is a disease that affects many children, adults, and families. I fervently believe that a cure can be found from our work at the Flatley Discovery Lab. We are working for this cure and we are also praying for it. I feel the two go hand-in-hand. For every child afflicted with this disease we pray for a miracle. But we also pray that there will be a miraculous discovery for that needle in the haystack in a field of haystacks. So we are trying to provide the means and the mechanism to discover that tiny, elusive molecule.
Yes, miracles are real. As G.K. Chesterton says, “The most unbelievable thing about miracles is that they happen.” And we, as Christians, really believe that God answers our prayers, and that many, many prayers are a sign of great faith that God rewards. The idea that our prayers have consequences, that our prayers have an effect on God may be baffling to the modern world. Chesterton calls it “a great thundering dogma.” But let the world be baffled by our prayers and by the answers to our prayers.
As a reminder of the reality of spiritual aspect of our work, I have placed a Crucifix in the lab. I encourage people to visit the lab webcam and I urge everyone to pray for our scientists and their work as scientists.
